adding a touch of fall in your decor

IMG_8166Colorful landscapes and colder weather, here we come! It’s time to welcome fall in all its glory with open arms. That also means warming up the decor which doesn’t really need to consist of a high budget. Simple additions like a multitude of pumpkins and squashes, naturel wreath, plaid pillows and blankets, candles, creative center piece make a huge difference.

Here are some ideas that I wanted to share with you if you are decorating with a small budget… I love to snag some leaves, pine cones or branches from the backyard and nearby  forest to put them on display in a glass vase. Here are some fun changes I did in my house. I used a natural colour palette so I can reuse them from year to year.

Lots and lots of white pumpkins and squashes, natural branches added to the table wear I had already and that integrates well in the decor. Black plates, rose gold cutlery, vintages glasses, wooden service plate and candles and voila.

My favorite advices:

  1. REUSE any pieces or accessory you ALREADY have in the house
  2. Use and buy natural color palette items
  3. Visit garage sales and thrift stores for nice finds
  4. Rely in nature to gather pine cones, leaves, branches…
  5. Shop en of season sales for next year
  6. Never hesitate to spray paint to give it a new life or add a pop of color
  7. Use decorating accessories ( blankets and pillows ) that could be use all year round
  8. Cook the squashes and pumpkins after festivities ( don’t carve them tho )

Added just a basket filled with squashes that I will cook slowly, added a plaid fall dish towel on the dishwasher door and a plaid rug in front of the sink.

Light pumpkin scented candles and don’t be afraid to spread natural pumpkins and squashes int he house… you won’t waste them, just cook them from time to time.

Add warm and cozy blankets in the living room to enjoy on cooler nights while watching a family with the kids. Add candles, cute pillows ( I prefer to go with classic colors and models ) but still love to add a pop of colour and warmth.

So now because it’s officially September…which in my mind means it’s basically time for pumpkin spice lattes, chunky knit blankets and cozy sweater.  Fall will be here before we know it and I must admit that I’m secretly looking forward to those crisp days ahead.

I’m definitely not a hardcore seasonal decorator where I change up everything in our home but I do like to change out a few things to celebrate the changing of seasons especially when fall comes. Here are some really lovely bloggers and I’m inviting you to discover their ways of decorating for fall with this Fall Canadian bloggers home tour.
