DIY winter porch decoration

Because I love decoration and that you would find the exact same style inside of our house and out, I love to decorate a little bit more when it comes to fall season, with some pumpkins, squashes and chrysanthemums and the winter and christmas decoration. Because also it just adds a little more colour to our front entryway, since I always put simple tropical plants year after year, in our big plant pots. So I start with winter decor, then christmas and right after Christmas I changed out the Christmas decorations and added some winter decor.

So here is what I like to do for my 3rd year in a row and some more inspirations ( that lots of were found on Pinterest.

Winter decoration

I added white pine that I found on the street left for the green residues waste collection, birch branches that I bought at the hardware store 2 years ago ( yes you can keep them in a dry space summer time ),   large pinecones to two tall black urns ( that we reuse summer time with our tropical trees.

I used  tall black plant vases that are very light to carry and move and that I filled with styrofoam (or floral foam)that we had at home.

Then I started adding, oddly the  white pine branches. You can definitly add any kind of coniferous branches and I know that usually around mid november, we start seeing stores selling it.

So as you can tell, I am not completely done with my project but with the lack of time, of course, I will probably continue within 1-2 weeks by adding big natural pinecones maybe tiny white lights.

To be continued…

Winter decor inspiration

I love getting inspired with magazines, Instagram and Pinterest

We really love our decorated entryway and  I hope you’ve enjoyed it too. What are you favorite style for decorating your porch or entryway for winter and Christmas?

visiting the beautiful region of Charlevoix

Want to visit a place where the picturesque charm is omnipresent between the period homes and the post-card sceneries and just enjoy the beauty of the world while spending most of your time outside walking and hiking?… Well this is for you.

We had the chance to visit the beautiful region of Charlevoix, aboard the luxurious Lexus RX L not too long ago and honestly, I really fell in love with the region, our ride and the priceless family time. The road to get there was superb, the scenery is breathtaking, the shops of local products are not to be missed and the charm of this region is waiting for you.

With our 3 sons, lots of suitcases and luggage to bring, we enjoyed the space in the Lexus RX L and the 3rd row seating. The boys were really comfortable and the space is roomy. This car offers a truly remarkable experience that we could appreciate with the winding roads and the odds that appear one after the other in this beautiful region of Charlevoix.

We went for several walks and hikes during this weekend, beautiful activities, unforgettable visits and unique discoveries. I really wanted to share all of this with you, because it was too beautiful and with children it’s always nice to be able to plan ahead.

Here is what we did during the weekend – I highly recommend reading along, if you like adventure and beautiful discoveries.

The region offers several hiking trails both for family and more advanced. We really like to walk with the boys for many reasons but first of all, it makes us take some fresh air, it makes us move outside, it gives us good family time or and allows us to appreciate nature … and I need to admit that everyone sleeps so much better in the evening.

You will find several hiking options on the Charlevoix tourism site to plan in advance the type and length of hike you want to do.

Helicopter ride

The helicopter ride at Heli-Charlevoix was really a great adventure. We really enjoyed this activity. The view that the area  had to offer with all the fall colors was just gorgeous and I must admit that the boys were speechless all along. The pilot told us that each season had its charm and that in winter, it is possible to see moose and follow them from the air. It gave us the taste to go back!

Gourmet journey

Another activity that I recommend is really to plan a gourmet walk to discover all the beautiful and great products that the region has to offer. We had the chance to taste cheeses, dry sausages, smoked salmon and pâtés from local artisans. We even had 2 picnics during the weekend to take the time to enjoy everything, while enjoying the beautiful landscape of the region. The concierge service at the hotel Le Germain helped us suggest a route that was perfect for our tastes.

Visiting the alpaca farm

Another necessary stop. Really. We adored. The Charlevoix alpaca farm is a great activity for all ages. Despite the very different ages of my 3 sons, I was a little apprehensive to see if they would all appreciate it but to my surprise, they all love it. The farm is educational and we found several explanatory posters which allowed us to learn a lot about this beautiful animal. The boys fed them and could also pet them too. There is a nice boutique where you can shop for alpaca fur items made from artisans.

A car ride to les Éboulements

We jumped in the Lexus RX L again to enjoy another charming region of Charlevoix, between Baie St-Paul and La Malbaie. If there is one place you really need to include in your course, is a visit to the beautiful iconic village of Charlevoix, while Saint-Irénée overlooks the heights and les éboulements eases its way along the Saint-Lawrence River. Then you have to drive along the river and stop at the ferry that travels up to Ile aux coudres. The view is splendid at this place, especially at low tide. This is a nice place to grab a snack and kids will enjoy a fun walk… or run.

This region is amazing to experience and we really fell in love with this beautiful part of Quebec. We will return for sure, for it’s beautiful breathtaking views, good gourmet stops, hiking trails, hospitality and good food.

In addition, our 3-day getaway was very pleasant in the comfort of the Lexus RX L, which allowed us to bring all the equipment we needed with the 3 boys and our many planned activities. We had all the space expected, the comfort was more than present and the driving was beyond my expectations. The fact that this luxury SUV has 6 seats and this, in 3 rows, really help to spend long hours on the road without any kids fights or arguing… read mom and dad were very happy!

I will share with you in my next blog post about our stay at the hotel Le Germain and gourmet stops to be sure to make this trip a memorable one.

I hope it gives you the taste to visit as much as we enjoyed our experience,

Stephanie xx

(EN)  If there is something that I like in life and that allows me to really have fun with my little creative side , well it’s decoration. I just love it. And what I like most is to set up beautiful tables when I host friends and family at home. So I’m sharing with you my finds and favorites and if it inspires you, I will be delighted.

I love mixing new and vintage accessories, travel souvenirs or gifts received, everything mixes well together. I like to stay in the same palettes so that I can mix several materials and textures.

Walking back from daycare and school

IMG_7910.JPGSo now that the  school season is officially on, as much as I am able to do it, when I either work from home or finish earlier at night, I always try to do my school and daycare pickup run on foot. The boys love it and so do I. Before leaving the house tho, I change for comfy sneakers and I make sure to grab a quick snack, which often consists of a Danone Creamy yogurt, with 25% less sugar than the previous recipe ( read happy mom ) and a fruit ( the boys love to dip their fruits in their yogurt ).

As a parent I always try my best to find the best products for my kids snacks and school lunches and I’m definitely really picky when it comes to reading nutritive labels.  Since we have a very busy life with both of us working full time, travelling a lot for work and sometimes being on night shifts, having quick and handy snacks but healthy ones, definitely helps us. We also always have fresh fruits at home like apples, berries, bananas and pears to take with the Danone Creamy yogurt so it keeps them satisfied and happy until dinner.

That’s why I wanted to share with you a snack that I recently discovered that fits perfectly for the needs of all my family: the Danone Creamy with a new reduced in sugar formula. With 25% less sugar than the previous recipe, it’s a perfect option for a nutritious snack for the whole family. Also, Danone Creamy is always made without preservative, artificial flavours and colours.

The boys loved the berry flavour when I need to admit that my favourite was the peach and the mango-vanilla.

What’s your favourite flavour?

Try them , you will loved them as much as we do.

Axel’s first fall look

IMG_7273.jpgBecause I love a LOT ( probably you can tell ) baby and kids fashion and that I get asked a lot ABOUT Axel’s styles and where I buy his clothes, I will try to document most of the looks I create with cute and fun brands…. and will link them all as well.

So yesterday was the first day where we had the chance to dress up with more layers because it was only 9 degrees outside when we left the house for daycare.

I love comfy, fun, quality clothes for my little ones that are usually basics or neutral colors and love to add either pop of colors like rust, burgundy, mustard or blue and complete with accessories like beanies, scarves, booties…

Fun and bold accessories can completely change the look and you feel like having a huge wardrobe for the little one without having to either splurge on spend on lots of pieces, just with some accessories. I prefer to spend more on quality and really soft and comfy basic pieces and add those accessories, that are usually less expensive.

Energy bites with @Oatbox granolas

fullsizeoutput_3e06.jpegEnergy bites and smoothie bowls are definitly trendy at the moment and I totally love that trend. It’s so good and yummy, and healthy if you carefully select good, natural ingredients.

I love to integrate the Oatbox granolas in them since it adds a fun crunchy taste and since they have so many flavors, the energy bites always has a different flavor, depending on the one I choose to make them with.

Use my code CHIC.MOM.IN.THE.CITY to get a 25$ value of FREE items with this OATBOX LINK :

We love to use these granolas in our cereals, yogurt, smoothie bowls, just like that as a snack, in our energy bites…

Here is one of my favorite recipe that I love to do, since it’s easy and that my boys approved as well. It makes good snacks and are perfect on the go as well in the morning with a coffee or almond milk.

  • 1 cup (dry) oatmeal
  • ⅔ cup toasted coconut flakes
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • ½ cup ground flaxseed
  • ½ cup pumpkin seeds
  • ½ cup chia seeds
  •  ⅔ cup Oatbox granolas
  • ⅓ cup honey
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Add everything to a bowl and mix to combine all ingredients together. Leave the bowl in the fridge and let it chill for about half an hour. A must if you want your balls to stick together when rolled.
  • After the chilling time, take a tablespoon of the mixture in your hand and roll into a ball. You can add a little more honey or peanut butter if you see that the balls don’t stick together.
  • Can be stored in the fridge for about 2 weeks but I prefer to keep them in an airtight container in the freezer.

Hope you love it when you try it. Let me know what is your favorite Oatbox granolas flavor…

Also, if you have any yummy energy bites recipes, please leave them in the comments or any cool websites with great recipes… I would love to try more.

Miles baby fall/winter collections

IMG_6004We recently had the chance the visit Miles baby brand’s head office located in Montreal and had lot of fun discovering the new fall/winter 2018 collection. Miles baby is a new baby play wear brand inspired by the neighbourhoods that line the Main in Montreal. They offer playful vibes and comfy styles with an illustrative aesthetic and a hint of nostalgia. Since I already had pieces for Axel from their last fall and summer collection last year, I know how well made, soft and fun their pieces are. So I thought I would share with you some of my favorite pieces and outfits for Axel.

Here are the reasons why we really like Miles baby:

  • the fabrics they use is always really soft
  • Axel looks comfy in them
  •  they style and design is stylish yet minimal and fun
  • it’s affordable
  • the clothes and colours stay really nice wash after wash

As a reference, the sizes are true to kids age and might even fight a bit bigger. Axel is almost 3, wears size 3 in joggers and size 4 for a looser fit on top but fits really well in size 3 tops too.

They will launch 4 collections this year. So here is the first collection called Back to (ART) School, with fun prints, green shades, grey, black and white pieces. You will love it. You will find for your little man joggers, tops, as well as fun accessories such as hats and scarves and they also have adorable pyjamas. And they of course have a girl’s line, which is always the same prints as the little boys but on leggings, dresses, skirts and cute girly tops.

Back to ( ART ) school

So as soon as they launch a new collection, I’ll keep you posted and show you more of their cute pieces.

Stay tuned.

Have a lovely day!

New eyebrows ( yes please )

Microblading is definetly the treatment of the hour.

I’ve always had pretty bushy and full brows, but as I’ve gotten older, the tail end and beginning of my arches have definitely thinned out, which is normal I red. Since I have NO talent ( Read NO TALENT AT ALL ) with makeup, I tried and struggled every single morning shaping some kind of an eyebrow and it always looked aweful . I had the chance to have my eyebrows done recently by Jessica Holloway, a Cosmetic Tattoo Artist and owner of Studio Holloway let me tell you, all busy girls, mom boss, stay at home moms, professionals etc… you NEED this.

The microblading is a form of semi-permanent tattoo that involves using tiny needles  that make up a small blade to help deposit pigment under your skin.

First, Jessica took care of GETTING TO KNOW ME; get to know my likes and dislikes ( did I like thick or thin, arched or more subtle?), personal style, lifestyle, analyzed my natural brow shape and color, morphology etc. ALL very important elements that play into the creation of the perfect eyebrow enhancement.

Then, she maped out the shape, measure it out based on my facial symmetry, and finally draw the eyebrow on. After a look in the mirror and being happy about the result the tattooing commenced.

If you ask anyone that knows me well, they will tell you that I hate and that even more, that I am terribly afraid of needles. So just thinking about the idea of having my eyebrows microbladed or tattooed, I was freaking out. Like litteraly. But, I was SO SURPRISED on how it didn’t hurt. And when you ask me about the results, I am even more happy.

It looks NATURAL and defined

You are WORTH IT

It saves time in the morning

t’s the low maintenance eyebrow treatment

So if you ask me if I recommend the microblading, I totally do since I LOVE the results, it looks natural and definitely is a time saving for me in the morning or on date nights with the hubby. Some people close to me even said that I look less tired. I’ll take it.

When you contact Jessica for your appointment and informations about all her treatments she offers, tell her you know me and she will offer you a discount.

Tag me if you post some of your results, I’d like to know what you think about it.
